Though the Easter connection remains a mystery, it wouldn't seem right to make them at any other time of the year. So I got stuck in and made them today.

The biscuits don't spread much, so if you're going to make these, don't worry about spreading them too far apart on the tray. They do rise, but only upwards.
To be honest, the end product is a pretty boring biscuit, both in appearance and taste. The biscuits have a very nice crisp texture, but they're a bit lacking in flavour. You'd expect the currants and the cinnamon to provide some flavour, but actually you don't even notice they're there. Don't get me wrong, they're not bad, especially if you like plain biscuits. Come to think if it, they'll probably make very good dippers. I must go and try that. Bring on the Milo!
Confirmed: good dipping biscuit. Keeps its crunch and doesn't crumble into your drink.
ReplyDeleteActually, the more I have of these, the more I like them. I think I was a bit harsh in my assessment: The cinnamon flavour is there - it's just very subtle.
Sounds like you've had a busy Easter Sunday morning...yum. I have an idea that turkish delight should be a little firmer than yours looks to have been but a couple more hours waiting isn't likely to have made a difference.Yay for the joys of working with melted choc, the mess sounds familiar!!c
